Jazz Art Events

A big part of what we do is to put together regional and national dance events. Here are our main projects:

Lindy Focus - This event began in 2002 and is typically a week-or-so long dance camp centered around New Year's Eve and includes many levels of workshop classes, electives in relevant jazz dance styles, several nights of live music, late night (early morning) dancing, and a generally raucus and high energy atmosphere. Over the years, we've become very proud of this event and the inspiration and dedication of those who attend it. Learn more at lindyfocus.com.

Southern Belle Swing Bash - We put together this event along with Gina Helfrich annually in Atlanta, GA. It is a follower-focused weekend in which ladies of all levels come together and work on their Lindy Hop, jazz dancing, style, and personal inspiration. Leaders are also invited to attend for free, to help out during class. Social dances during this event are always ridiculously fun, and over the years we've had some truly powerful instructors that have made an enormous impact on both the leaders and followers who attend. Enter the Blues - We actually joined this little team after its inaugural year, and have spent the last two years adding our organizational and creative input. This was the first major blues workshop weekend the catered to the southeast region, and it's really helped cultivate a love for blues dance around these parts with it's full plate of classes, competitions, and performances. Sugar Foot Stomp - Though we're putting this event on hold for the moment, we certainly had some good times. For this unique workshop weekend, we brought in instructors who specialized in rare, almost-forgotten early jazz and partner dances such as Peabody, Black Bottom, 20's Charleston, Original Shag, Texas Tommy, and more. The DJ's had a blast with this one too, getting to pull out some of their most treasured early hot jazz recordings to light up the dance floor. Thanks to the dance community for helping make these happen!
